Born
in 1936. Studied at St. Martin's School of Art in London from
1960-64. Had a retrospective at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh
in 1993. He lived and worked in New York from 1964, collaborating
with Peter Phillips on a project called "Hybrid".
This aimed to produce an art object which was determined by
the demands of the consumer. The two artists constructed two
kits containing samples of canvas, paint, wood and fabrics,
through to modern materials such as plastic and metal and
devised a questionnaire with which they interviewed 1137 critics,
collectors and art administrators in cities such as New York
and London. The results were fed into a computer and they
made a sculpture as a result of this in 1966, incorporating
aluminium, plexiglass and fluorescent tubing.
He
has had individual exhibitions in London, New York, and all
over the United States.
