Born
in 1939 in Birmingham. From 1953 -1955 he studied at Moseley
Road Secondary School of Art, Birmingham and from 1955 to
1959 at the Birmingham College of Art. In 1959 he visited
Paris and started to exhibit at the RBA Galleries, London.
Studied at the Royal College of Art with R B Kitaj, Allen
Jones, Derek Boshier, Patrick Caulfield and David Hockney.
There he saw reproductions of work by Jasper Johns and Robert
Rauschenberg. He was particularly fascinated by American culture
and reflected its commerical iconography and aggressive advertising
style in his dynamic "montage" paintings.
From
1962 -1963 he taught at the Coventry and Birmingham Colleges
of Art. From 1964-66 he lived in New York and travelled in
the USA with Allen Jones. In 1965 he had his first one-man
exhibition at the Kornblee Gallery, New York. He collaborated
on a project called "Hybrid" with Gerald Laing in
1966. He travelled in Africa, the Far East and the USA. Retrospectives
include the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool in 1982. He now
lives and works in Mallorca.
